Special Delivery! Unique Ways to say “I Love You” this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about taking the time to tell important people in our lives that we love them. While this love is often expressed with traditional romantic gestures such as candy, chocolates, or a romantic date, just taking the time to tell someone how special they are to you can really go a long way. It’s the words and emotions of the holiday that have a lasting impact.

Our relationship experts at American Greetings wanted to offer up a few fun, low-cost ideas on how to make someone feel special with a personalized, heartfelt message.

  • Write a secret message with lemon juice on a piece of paper. They can then (carefully) hold it over a light bulb or iron and the message will appear as if by magic.

  • Decorate mail boxes for each member of the family and encourage everyone to write special messages to each other throughout the month of February.

  • Take a deck of cards and write a short loving note on each card. Include shared memories, things you love about the person, promises you want to make, wishes for the future, or anything else you can think up. The card deck can then easily be toted in the original box or bound together.

  • Take a chalkboard and put it in a prominent place in the house. Change the message daily with quotes of inspiration, favorite love song lyrics, and special messages to family members.

  • Sometimes revisiting the past is one of the best ways to celebrate how you got to where you are today. Using pretty red or pink ribbons, bind together cards, letters and photos from years past to create a personalized book that tells the story of your relationship in your own words.
