Top Five Mother’s Day Sentiments Every Mom Wants to Hear

Oftentimes we take for granted everything that mom has done for us over the years to contribute towards our success and happiness. That’s why Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to take the time to express heartfelt sentiments of love and appreciation to all of the moms in our lives who have made a difference. Whether it’s through the life lessons she taught us, the sacrifices she made, or the way she intuitively knows when something is awry, the unique bond between a parent and child is something to be celebrated.

But how do we find the right sentiments to properly recognize the women who play such an integral role in our lives and who helped shape us into the adults we are today? This Mother’s Day we asked our experts to share a little about the sentiments every mom wants to hear on this very special occasion.

  • The “little things” count - Spend some time thinking about the special things your mom has done that meant so much—always remembering your likes and dislikes, making sure you’ve got a sweater in case it gets cold and even keeping track of your belongings (especially your cell phone and car keys!) with a GPS-like accuracy.
  • Walks down memory lane – Reminding mom of a special day spent together, the best advice she ever gave you, or the time she cut you some slack when you were having a hard time goes a long way in reinforcing the appreciation and love you are trying to express on Mother’s Day. It always feels good to know that the time a parent invests in their child has made a positive impression on them.
  • You listened! Whether she dropped a million hints or came right out and said that she’d just like to spend Mother’s Day together, just knowing that you listened and took her request to heart means the world. At the same time, don’t go overboard and try to make her plan her own day. Take her lead and snag those reservations or prepare her favorite meal—and do the dishes afterwards!
  • Thank you - Of course your appreciation for mom runs deep, but taking the time to actually say thank you makes all of the sleepless nights (both when you were a baby and when she’s up worrying nowadays) well worth it.Write it on your Mother’s Day card to her and don’t forget to say it to her throughout the day.
  • I love you… It’s the first sentence a parent practically pines to hear their child say, so shout it loud and proud on Mother’s Day! It doesn’t have to be effusive, grandiose, or in any way that feels out of character for you—those three simple words whether said, written, or expressed through your actions mean so much!

If words seem to fail you, there’s nothing wrong with getting a little help from the experts to offer mom a heartfelt sentiment. A carefully chosen Mother’s Day greeting card or a mom-themed poem or passage can help you find the right words to express to mom just how important she is to you.
