Repurpose Materials to Spice Up Your Holiday Decorating
As the holidays roll around this year, you may be looking to spice up your décor without spending money on purchasing all new items. However, with a fresh look at things you may already own, it’s easy to come up with new, unexpected combinations that add a special something to your decorating.
When budgets get tight, getting creative is not only a smart thing to do, but a fun activity as well. Check out these tips from the holiday experts at American Greetings (adding in a little creative thinking of your own) and you’ll be well on your way to a fresh look that’s equal parts festive and savvy.
- The tree isn’t the only place for beautiful bulbs and lights. Fill large clear vase (or a cluster of them) with similar ornaments and lights for a look that sparkles on a buffet or mantel.
- Take a trip out into Mother Nature to collect various types of evergreen and holly branches. Arrange them around the base of your candlesticks for a scented, natural centerpiece.
- Don’t already own a set of matching candlesticks? Turn a few champagne glasses upside down and place a medium sized pillar candle on top for a unique look.
- Looking to give your larger votives a greater impact? Place a candle in the center and fill the holder with fresh cranberries about half way up the side of the candle. Carefully cover the cranberries with water and the light reflecting through the berries will give off a beautiful glow.
- Wrap a few small gift boxes, top them with pretty ribbons and stack them on a cake plateau for a beautiful vignette.
- Favorite childhood holiday books become nostalgic vintage décor when strategically displayed or stacked on a coffee table. They’ll not only serve as seasonal decoration, but they’ll also remind you of happy memories of holidays past.
Lastly, one of the most treasured holiday traditions is the sending and receiving of holiday cards. Allow these good wishes from friends and family to serve as a decoration on their own. Here are some great ideas on how to display holiday cards in a festive manner. (link to other release)
