Festive Ways To Display Holiday Greeting Cards
One of the most honored and cherished holiday traditions is the sending and receiving of greeting cards. The colorful cards and photos that arrive remind us of all of the special people in our lives who wanted to take a moment to let us know that they care and wish us well.
How can you give your holiday greetings a unique place of honor in your home? To assist in this process we’ve asked our experts at American Greetings to make some fun (and sometimes unexpected) suggestions for you.
- Cover a corkboard in holiday wrap and tie a bow like a present. As each card arrives, hang it from the board with a pushpin or a pearl head sewing pin.
- Secure 3 wide, firm ribbons to the top of a door. Then hang the cards with double-sided tape, centered on the ribbon. You can also use clothespins for a more country look.
- Using double-sided tape, arrange the cards around the doorframe near your entrance or any other high traffic area where you and your guests can enjoy them.
- Oftentimes containers from holiday gift sets, such as sleighs or beautiful baskets, can be repurposed as card containers. Set it close to the entrance of the house so that cards can be added as they arrive.
- Trim a few branches from the yard and spray paint them a holiday accent color like silver or gold. Place the branches upright in a vase and then tie your cards to the branches with pretty ribbons.
- If you celebrate the holidays with a festive tree, this might be a great year for a themed tree. Decorate with lights and a few simple bulbs, but then let your cards be the rest of the decorations. Tuck them inside your tree and hang them from ribbons for a personalized look.
- Do you hang a beautiful garland over the mantel or a doorway? It’s easy to hang some cards from it by taping an individual branch across the back of the card.
- Create a mosaic effect by using photo corners from the scrapbooking section of your local craft store and place them directly on your walls. Carefully layer the cards as they arrive and watch your collection grow throughout the season.
A great way to keep your holiday greeting card mailing list accurate and complete is to collect the addresses from each card you receive. Tear off the return address from the envelope and tape it to the back of the card. When it’s time to pack away the cards at the end of the season, take a few moments to make sure that your address book is up to date.
